Halit Resort was built on a plot of land granted by Count Władysław Zamoyski, ‘the ruler of the State of Zakopane’, to his administrator Wincenty Szymborski, father to Wisława Szymborska (a Polish Nobel prizewinner).

For many years the Halit Resort was owned by the Wieliczka Salt Mine, which contributed to its name: “halit” stands for a halite, or a rock-salt crystal.  These traditions are reflected in Halit’s interior decoration and in some of the services offered here.  The new owners’ wish is to bring the air of casual comfort here and to support the mining (permanent exhibition “500 Years of Mining in the Tatra Mountains”) and hiking traditions of the Tatras.
